LEADERSHIP
guided by service. united by mission.
leadership rooted in purpose
The Warrior’s Journey Golf was founded on a simple but powerful conviction: healing happens through connection, purpose, and shared experience.
What began as a single moment of interaction with wounded veterans has grown into a mission-driven organization dedicated to walking alongside those who have served. Our leadership team brings together decades of experience in golf, mentorship, and service, united by a shared commitment to restoring hope and resilience in the lives of combat-wounded veterans.
russ holden
director of warrior golf
The vision for The Warrior’s Journey Golf was sparked in 2005 when founder Russ Holden witnessed firsthand the impact that encouragement, presence, and the game of golf could have on wounded service members. That moment ignited a calling to create a program where veterans could find belonging, renewed confidence, and purpose beyond their injuries.
Russ has been a PGA of America Class A professional since 1985 and spent many years as Head Golf Professional at Woodfield Country Club in Boca Raton, Florida. His career in golf includes extensive experience on the PGA TOUR, where he worked closely with two-time Masters Champion and World Golf Hall of Famer Bernhard Langer as both caddie and instructor from 1991 to 2006. During that time, Russ contributed to multiple top finishes in major championships and served as Caddie Captain for the European Team at the 2004 Ryder Cup.
More than accolades, Russ’s leadership is shaped by relationships and a deep belief that golf can be a catalyst for healing, growth, and lifelong connection. That belief continues to guide the mission and culture of The Warrior’s Journey Golf today.
Gabriel Axtell
golf operations coordinator
Gabriel Axtell is a United States Marine Corps veteran who served over a decade on active duty, including time in special operations. Following an injury, he was medically retired and later awarded a 100% VA disability rating.
Through The Warrior’s Journey, Gabriel found renewed purpose, structure, and community during his transition from military to civilian life. The program played a meaningful role in his personal growth, helping him reconnect through golf, mentorship, and service to fellow veterans.
Today, Gabriel serves as Golf Operations Coordinator, where he supports the planning and execution of Warrior Weeks, events, and on-course experiences. He works closely with staff, partners, and volunteers to ensure each program runs smoothly and delivers a meaningful, mission-aligned experience for the warriors we serve.
Outside of his work with veterans, Gabriel is a dedicated husband and father who values faith, family, and an active lifestyle. He enjoys spending time outdoors, golfing, and teaching his children the importance of resilience, service, and community.

Before transitioning to the nonprofit sector, Colleen built a successful career in the medical field, holding management roles in tertiary care hospital managed care, group practice administration, and pharmaceutical wholesaler drug sales. Her background in healthcare, finance, and operations strengthens the organization’s strategic and administrative foundation.
Colleen holds both a BSBA and MBA from the University of Central Florida with concentrations in Marketing and Finance. An avid golfer, she shares her love of the game with her family, including her adult children, who have used their golf skills to support the organization’s mission-aligned programs and events.
